ACCOUNTING DEGREE
ECSU is committed to a high quality baccalaureate (four year) accounting program. The trend is for universities to replace baccalaureate programs with master degree programs in response to the 150 semester hour requirement for CPA licensure.
ECSU's baccalaureate degree requires 124 semester hours, so an additional 26 semester hours are necessary to meet the requirements for a CPA License. Accounting majors may take additional semester hours while working towards their bachelor's degree or CPA candidates may take additional hours after graduation.
However many accounting majors do not aspire to become CPAs in the public accounting sector. In fact the majority of accounting majors find employment with corporations or governments. ECSU's four-year accounting program is an attractive alternative to master degree programs for students who would have difficulty financing a fifth year of college.
Many career paths are open to accounting majors including:
- Public Accounting
- Corporate Accounting
- Governmental Accounting
