Combining Math and Business
Some business majors choose to minor in Computer Science, particularly those with a concentration in Information Systems, because the combination is highly sought after by recruiters. Simiarly many math and computer science majors choose to minor in Business.
Both the BS in Mathematics Degree and the BS in Computer and Information Sciences Degree require either a concentration or a minor. Many choose business because the private sector of the economy is larger and employs more Information Technology (IT) personnel than does the scientific sector.
Companies want IT professionals to understand the mission of the enterprise so that the information systems better serve that mission. It is not enough to know how to write good code or to operate a computer system, IT professionals must also understand the objectives that they are trying to fulfill. Business courses teach the economic concepts needed to understand the enterprise's goals.
Besides, even for IT professionals the path to advancement is through management. Higher level positions involve supervising other computer programmers and technicians. Minoring in Business enhances the promotion potential for IT professionals.
