NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF BLACK ACCOUNTANTS
The National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. (NABA) was founded as a professional organization of minority accountants. NABA addresses the many common problems faced by the growing number of African-American accountants. NABA provides support to those professionals seeking higher levels of accomplishment in the field of accounting and create opportunities for minority students in the profession.
More importantly, NABA provides students the opportunity to learn from executives. Some lessons are not taught in a classroom, but rather are learned through experience. Students can avoid some career mistakes and get a head start on the corporate ladder by listening to those who have experience.
Few companies send recruiters to small university campuses, so students need to go to the recruiters. Therefore the ECSU Student Chapter of NABA sponsors trips to conferences. NABA fall conferences are excellent forums to meet recruiters and to interview for positions.
The student club also engages in fund raising activities to raise money to pay for trips to the fall conferences and hosts campus visits by professional NABA members. In addition the national NABA organization and the Richmond Professional Chapter offers scholarships.
