Selection Process

  1. An introduction and planning meeting is conducted during the third or fourth week of each March, July, and October for students interested in considering applying for a Kauffman Entrepreneurial Internship for a future semester. Flyer announcements are posted around the campus several weeks in advance of each meeting. The meeting allows Center for Entrepreneurship staff to explain the program, answer student questions and announce the next application deadline. All interested ECSU students are invited; students of any academic major may be considered.
  2. Interested students apply by the announced deadline (about two weeks following the planning meeting) by submitting a resume and entrepreneurship essay to the Center for Entrepreneurship.
  3. Applicants are evaluated and rated by a committee made up of the Dean of the Davis School of Business, the Administrative Coordinator of the Center for Entrepreneurship and one Davis School faculty member.
  4. Interviews are offered to approximately 12 highest rated applicants. Interviews last about 15-20 minutes, are conducted by the selection committee and offer the candidate the opportunity to display his/her communication, leadership and potential entrepreneurial skills.
  5. The selection committee selects the best overall candidates among the interviewees to be Kauffman Entrepreneurial Interns for the following semester. Approximately six are chosen for part-time internships for each of the Fall and Spring semesters; six to nine are chosen for full-time internships for the Summer semester. Occasionally, based upon unique individual circumstances, a full-time internship may be approved for the Fall or Spring semester and a part-time internship may be approved for the Summer semester.
  6. Both selected and non-selected candidates are notified of their status. Non-selected candidates are offered guidance on how to improve for possible consideration for later internships.
  7. Selected interns register for BUAD-490 Internship, complete paperwork for temporary employment with ECSU, and are matched with host entrepreneurial mentors.
  8. Selected interns attend a half-day Intern Orientation immediately prior to beginning the internship.
