Research and Teaching Interests:

  1. Public policy, planning and the delivery of urban goods and services. Study of the public and private sector’s involvement in the allocation and delivery of goods and services to urban residents with an emphasis on services that depend on the infrastructure of urban areas, such as water, roads, and utilities.
  2. Study of socio-economic and cultural-ethnic-racial groups in the United States. Particular emphasis given to the quality of life within the physical setting of cities and towns. Also, regional migrations of the African American population and the involvement of this group in city development.

Teaching Interests:

Study of environmental problems in urban and rural areas, such as acid rain and nuclear waste disposal. The physical environment at the surface of the earth and the forces that shape that environment such as weather, climate, vegetation, soil, oceans, and rivers. Particular emphasis on the effect of running water on pollution initiated by industrial and agricultural sources, and political ramifications.

Research Tools:

Quantitative methods with a focus on multivariate statistical analysis (specific tools used include regression, discriminant, and factor analysis) and geographical analysis (Geographical Information Systems).
