Dr. Kathleen Fischer

Dr. Fischer received her B.S. in Chemistry, with a minor in mathematics, at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Her Ph.D. in Oceanography is from Oregon State University, and her thesis area was marine water-column and sediment geochemistry. Following a post-doctorate at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Dr. Fischer worked as an oceanorgrapher for the Naval Research Laboratory. She has authored or co-authored over 20 peer-reviewed publications and has served as principal investigator of four competitively funded projects. Currently, her main research interest is the biogeochemistry of coastal environments. A primary goal of Dr. Fischer's approach to mentoring students' is to strengthen students' writing, quantitative, and critical thinking abilities.
