Liz Noble received her BS in Zoology (Cum Laude) from North Caroina State University (NCSU) in Raleigh, North Carolina. She completed three years of graduate studies (Summa Cum Laude) in the Master Program in Marine Science and Physical Oceanography at NCSU's Department of Marine, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. She conducted research on the fluid dynamics of Pamlico Sound, North Carolina, and how the sound's circulation patterns influenced juvenile finfish migrations to estuarine nursery areas. Relevant course work included Applied Coastal Ecology, Physical Dynamics of Estuaries, Satellite Oceanography, Environmental Fluid Dynamics, and numerous fisheries courses. She left graduate school in 1987 to accept a position with the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries (DMF) as a Marine Fisheries Biologist. During her career at the Division of Marine Fisheries (DMF), Liz wrote the North Carolina Artificial Reef Plan, conducted research on king and Spanish mackerel life history as well as classification analyses of Pamlico Sound nursery areas. Recommendations were made for critical habitat criteria as part of EPA's Albermarle-Pamlico National Estuarine Program to protect fishery nursery areas. She also spent five years as Project Leader for DMF's shellfish habitat and abundance mapping project before coming to ECSU in July, 2002, as Project Coordinator for the NOAA-ECSU Coastal Habitat Protection Plan Environmental Entrepreneurship Program.
