At the Johns Hopkins University a geological research laboratory was organized, equipped, and staffed for the purpose of
investigating a military problem for the U.S. Navy. 

At Shell Oil Company geochemical research was initiated for the oil exploration program. 

As Chief Naturalist at Platt National Park responsibilities included the development of interpretive programs. National Park
Service employment at Natural Bridges National Monument, Dinosaur National Park, Cape Hatteras National Seashore, and
Coronado National Monument. Graduate of The National Park Service Ranger Academy. 

Developed the Department of Geology at Catawba College and chaired the Department for eight years. 

Directed and taught Geography and Earth Science courses at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. Wrote program in
Environmental Engineering. Directed graduate students. 

Established the Department of Geosciences at Elizabeth City State University, and developed major in Geology and minors in Geology, Geography, and Environmental Science. Chaired the Department of Geosciences. Wrote numerous proposals and was awarded grants from the United States Geological Survey, Department of National Resources and Community Development, and the National Science Foundation. Wrote program in Environmental Science for the University of North Carolina Independent Study by Extension Program. Carried out geological and environmental research on the Pasquotank River. Taught several in-service courses in earth science, physical science, and environmental science for public school teachers. 

Currently acting as project director for the Dismal Swamp Boardwalk Education and Research project; teach courses in
geology & environmental science; direct research on hydrology of Dismal Swamp. Also teach independent study course in
environmental science for University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. 

Planned and initiated Public Awareness meeting on the state of the environment of Northeast North Carolina, funded by the Albemarle Pamlico Estuarine Study. 

Served on the Mayor's Science Committee, Elizabeth City, and served as resource person and judge for local public school science fairs. 

Membership in Professional Organizations include: National Association of Geology Teachers; North Carolina Academy of
Science; Society of Economic Mineralogists and Paleontologists; and the Albemarle Environmental Association.
