Dr. Francisco C. San Juan

Dr. San Juan (Ph.D. in geology) has been a faculty of ECSU for the last 20 years. His professional experience includes a stint as an exploration geologist, and as the head of the Geology Department in a gold mining company. For the last 8 years, he has attended numerous workshops, short courses and conferences in GIS and remote sensing. He also developed a curriculum for a minor in GIS and Remote sensing. Past research projects include working with the U.S. Geological Surveyand the North Carolina Geological Survey in the study of heavy mineral deposits in the Cretaceous sediments of North Carolina. Funded by the University of North Carolina water Resources Research Institute, Dr. San Juan also completed a study of surface and grounded waters characterization using uranium isotope disequilibrium methods. 
He was selected as a participant in two NSF sponsored faculty enhancement programs: one is the University of Akron's Modern Carbonate Sedimentation workshop in San Salvador Island, the Bahamas, and the other is the University of San Diego's Short Course in Marine Science.
