The trip to South Carolina was enjoyable as well as educational. The trip was enjoyable as well as educational. The trip was enjoyable because everyone gat a long with one another under the leadership of Omari Salisbury, Sid Etheridge, and Brian Thompson, who made sure that everyone had a good time at a mature and responsible level. On our way to Aiken we stopped at South of the Border where we ate lunch and visited various types of hobby shops. We were also provided with excellent sleeping accommodations at the Motel 8 where the students were able to interact socially.
The educational part of the trip took place at the Savannah River Site. This is where different scientist such as geologist, biologist, and engineers work to restore the environment. They talked to us and explained the different methods that are used to clean up an area such as the Geosiphon Cell Technology and Horizontal Well Instillation to monitor, contain, and prevent further groundwater contamination. Dr. Ambrose Anoruo informed us of the summer internship and research programs that they have where students from HBCU's can take courses on the SRS and earn college credits as well as get some hands on experience.
Overall, the fieldtrip to South Carolina was a great opportunity to learn as well as have fun at the same time
