The Savannah River Site (SRS) was truly a wonderful learning experience.  As soon as we arrived on site, we were stopped by security and wee all had to show photo identification before we could proceed in to the site.  After the security check we were all a little anxious to see what the SRS was really all about.  I was surprised when I found out that the SRS was a location where the US Government produced nuclear weapons during the Cold War.  Now the SRS is a place where the Government uses technology and the best scientist from around the world to restore the environment to it's pre-Cold War status.

Dr. Ambrose Anoruo talked about how scientist use different types of technology in order to get the environment fully restored.  After being in the classroom for the first half of the day, we were eager to see the various environmental problems and how the scientist try to solve them.  While visiting the different areas of the site, the group stayed very attentive and focused on each scientist.  it was truly fascinating to actually see what the scientist do, and how they work on different environmental problems everyday.  For example, in one area of the site, the scientist showed us how they use man made wetlands to raise the pH of very acidic water.

Although I am a Business Major, I really enjoyed learning about the environment.  I also believe that everyone should stay environmentally informed and that students with all kinds of concentrations would enjoy and appreciate a good environmental experience.  I the future I hop that I am blessed with the opportunity to take another educational trip with the Environmental Research Lab.
