"An Investigation of Chemical Microbiological Parameters in Aquatic
Environments of Canals Associated with Shoreline Housing
Developments"
Canals in shoreline housing developments would seem to become stagnate and propagate growth of microorganisms and the build up of undesirable chemicals, especially nutrients and heavy metals. The research consisted of weekly visits to each testing site where temperature, conductivity and total dissolved solids, Escherichia coli, coliform bacteria, nitrates, phosphates, pH, dissolved oxygen, time, temperature and weather conditions were recorded. The testing of those parameters allowed for a conclusion that the canals did propagate the collection of hazardous elements that were detrimental to the sensitive ecological area.
