Question #1

The Social Sciences Department is open to all students who desire to work toward a degree in one of its programs.  However, the student must first meet the Minimum Admission Requirements (MAR) of the University of North Carolina if he/she is a freshman or satisfy all entrance requirements set by Elizabeth City State University.  Once admitted the student is required to complete the General Studies Requirements or course work equivalent to those required in the General Basic Studies Program.

                 General Education Requirement

Each student entering the major must complete a minimum of 43 hours of general education courses.  The division of General Studies is the lower division of the University, or approximately the first two years of matriculation, and is responsible for administering the general education program at the University.  Its aim is to assure that the curriculums of all students regardless of major include a specified number of general education courses which are designed to provide fundamental knowledge and skills, a broad liberal arts and cultural education, and meet the requirements for entering one of the twelve academic units offering degree granting programs.

Once a student declares one of the programs within the Social Sciences Department he/she is assigned to a Social Science advisor who meets with the student periodically to examine his/her academic progress and to give advice on matters concerning the student’s status at the University.

Transfer students and readmit students must see an advisor during the first registration period to determine what courses will be accepted toward their degree. Back to Top
