Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) is a constituent institution of the University of North Carolina. Established historically for the education and training of African Americans, ECSU educates and prepares students from all races, creeds, and national origins for both professional and pre-professional disciplines. ECSU’s unique location in rural Northeastern North Carolina affords students the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills they acquire with systems of various sizes and types.

The Elizabeth City State University Social Work Program derives its mission from the University’s mission by providing a challenging, student-centered learning environment to prepare students for responsible participation and leadership in an ever-changing multicultural world. The Social Work Program serves all students including populations at-risk and those distinguished by race, gender, sexual orientation, disabilities and geographic location. The Social Work Program prepares students for effective and humane service delivery incorporating generalist social work practice with individuals, groups, families, communities, and organizations. With the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics as a guideline, students are able to demonstrate knowledge and skills in the areas of social work practice, social welfare policy, and social programs and services.

The Social Work Program shares the University’s dedication to excellence in teaching, research, service delivery, and community outreach.
