Business and Finance Division Campus Training

The Business and Finance Division provides monthly training sessions on financial matters which are available to all faculty and staff.  Faculty/staff members are encouraged to improve their knowledge of the University's financial procedures by attending these sessions.  In addition, a Business and Finance Procedures Certification Program (see below) which is designed to ensure that staff members have a working knowledge of Business and Finance processes and procedures is available to all faculty and staff.

Financial Processes and Procedures Training Sessions

The Controller's Office, Office of Procurement, and Budget Office combine to offer a monthly session which includes training on using the Financial Records System (FRS), reading monthly account statements, budgeting procedures, preparation of on-line requisitions, travel regulations, and purchasing procedures.

Interested faculty/staff members should contact Ms. Ruth Williams or Ms. Elizabeth Linney at extension 492 to register for a session.

Financial Records System (FRS) Training Sessions

FRS training sessions are held monthly in the EV Wilkins Academic Computing Center.  The sessions are usually held on the second Tuesday of each month from 8:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.  Space is limited to twelve participants, and it is very important that users arrive on time for the training sessions.

Please contact Ms. Robbin Brooks at (252) 335-3784 to register for a session or to obtain more information about FRS training sessions.

Business and Finance Procedures Certification Program

The Business and Finance Procedures Certification Program is designed to provide continuous learning opportunities about business and finance procedures, policies, statutes, and regulations for faculty, administrators, and staff.  A list of multiple choice questions and responses is provided for individual self testing.  A second list of the same questions and responses is provided with the correct answers highlighted in bold print.  Certain questions are also highlighted in bold print to indicate that knowing the correct answer is extremely important for all faculty and staff.  In general, incorrect knowledge of the answers to the highlighted questions could result in actions causing audit problems for the university, financial liability for an employee, or potential disciplinary action against an employee.

The Business Office conducts a testing program which has been developed to provide some assurance to administrators that their staff members have an adequate knowledge of business procedures.  The test is administered monthly and consists of 100 representative multiple choice questions selected from the questions found on this web site.  A score of 95% is considered as a passing grade.  Due to the importance of the highlighted questions on the web site, a single miss of one of those questions would cause an individual to have to retake the test at a later date in order to obtain a passing grade.  A certificate of achievement is provided to all individuals passing the test.

Please contact Ms. Rhonda McCullen at (252) 335-3492 to register to take the test.  Test locations will be determined on a monthly basis depending on the number of individuals registered.
