The mission of the VC is to provide two-way interactive video services primarily for ECSU faculty, students, administrators, and staff. It is also available for non-ECSU individuals and/or organizations in the Albemarle region, providing access to the NCREN and NCIH. Satellite events are also supported through the Center. |

NCREN is a private telecommunications network operated by MCNC in Research Triangle Park. This multi-site, multi-channel, interactive network interconnects universities, medical and graduate centers, and research institutions in North Carolina. (http://www.ncren.net/) |

The North Carolina Information Highway (NCIH) provides state government entities with a broadband network for high-speed data, voice, and video. It operates within the Department of Commerce and is managed by Information Technology Services (ITS). This network connects to more than 200 sites across the state. (http://www.ncih.net/) Through these networks, ECSU can receive and send telecourses (often called distance education) and participate in seminars, workshops and conferences throughout the state. The VC is also equipped to receive satellite events. The ECSU site can also connect with sites outside the state. |
