ECSU StudentsWelcome to the Department of Business Administration, School of Business and Economics at Elizabeth City State University. Our program provides a transformational undergraduate education that prepares and develops our graduates for professional careers within the global community. The department offers a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration, with one of five concentrations: Management, Management Information Systems, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, and Economics and Finance. The faculty members in the department of Business Administration are academically and professionally qualified to teach in the area of their disciplines. With the support of highly dedicated staff, we are determined to strive for excellence in recruitment, retention, graduation, and mission of team spirit that characterized the Department. We make it a point of duty to educate our students to (1) apply critical thinking skills to business decisions, (2) make sound ethical decisions and social responsibility, (3) communicates effectively in both written and oral form, (4) apply and use fundamental principles from core knowledge base of business administration. Based on the needs of society and those of our students, we provide opportunities for students to engage in internship and outreach projects research to find solutions to business issues.   • Management. Coursework focuses on organizational management skills and issues, operations management and entrepreneurship and prepares graduates for profit, not-for-profit and governmental management.
  • Marketing. You will learn about promotions, consumer behavior, retailing, branding and marketing management. While some graduates go directly to study for their MBA, with an undergraduate degree in business with a marketing focus, you will be prepared for a marketing career in consumer research, advertising, public relations, manufacturing, distribution, retail, wholesale, other service suppliers and a range of non-profits.
  • Management Information Systems (MIS). Study focuses on designing and understanding computer systems that help people and organizations function more effectively and efficiently. Strategic planning and ways to improve management and operational control systems are also discussed. You will study system analysis and design, database management, business network and Information technology project management.
  • Economics and Finance. You will learn more about the theories of economics and finance. This concentration will prepare you for careers in banking, government, corporate finance, private entities, and investment banking. Inclusive in the program objectives is the preparation for graduate study in business administration, economics, finance and related academic areas.
  • Entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship is the exciting and rewarding study of individuals and organizations that identify and develop opportunities to create value in the marketplace. It is a process emphasizing creativity, opportunity recognition, evaluation, and development; often with limited resources. The entrepreneurship concentration aims to provide the skills to be successful given the opportunity or necessity for self-employment.
