History of the Walter R. Davis School of Business & Economics
ECSU first offered a major in Business Administration in 1973. Accounting followed in 1983. The degrees were offered by the Department of Business & Economics until 2000, when the University created the School of Business & Economics. The school was split into two departments at that time: a Department of Accounting, Economics and Finance, and a Department of Management and Marketing. At that time, the school offered degrees in Accounting and Business Administration, as well as a degree program in Business Education. As part of its continuing quest to improve student learning, the curriculum has undergone a number of revisions. As part of these revisions, the business education program was phased out, with the last graduate completing coursework in the 2005-2006 academic year. In the 2009-2010 academic year, the departments were reorganized to mirror the academic programs, yielding a Department of Accounting and a Department of Business Administration.
From 182 students in the Fall of 2000, the SBE student body has grown to a population of more than 500 students and 22 (will this number be right F10?) full-time academic staff. The SBE offers a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. The SBE continues to grow and exert its transformational influence on our students. Come be a part of SBE history!
