Summer Finance Experience

Under the guidance of Dr. Confidence Amadi, 35 rising high school sophomores and juniors spent a week on the ECSU campus learning about the functioning of a market economy through the study of the role and flow of money, along with the decisions regarding its use. This is the second year that the program has taken place. Last year's topic was the creation of small businesses.

The students learned about the various careers in finance and gained technical knowledge about the role and function of financial markets. Student mentors worked with them to improve study habits, enhance computer skills. They also were exposed to business terminology that will make it possible to have a better appreciation and understanding of the business environment. The twin highlights of the week were a day trip to Philadelphia to visit the Federal Reserve branch and see the U.S. Mint along with visits to the U.S. Constitution Center and the presentation of their projects on the creation of financial services organizations.

This project was made possible by a grant from the University of North Carolina General Administration through the GEAR-UP program.
