 Welcome to the homepage of the Department of Chemistry and Physics at Elizabeth City State University. With a department of highly dedicated and qualified faculty and staff, we are determined to strive for excellence in teaching, constant growth, and maintenance of a warm and enthusiasm that is characteristic of the Department. We make every attempt to educate our students so they graduate with (1) critical thinking skills, (2) creative and curious minds, (3) uniquely specialized abilities to function in various environments and (4) an enthusiasm to take advantage of global opportunities and serve humanity.
In keeping with the needs of society and those of students, we continue to expand our course and curriculum offerings. We have programs that prepare students to pursue careers in (i) biomedical, chemical and physical sciences, (ii) medicine, (iii) dentistry, (iv) pharmacy, (v) physical therapy, (vi) occupational therapy, (vii) biochemistry, (viii) biophysics, (ix) medical physics, chemical education, biomedical engineering and (x) chemical industry.
We also provide opportunities for students to engage in research to find treatment for such diseases as Alzheimer’s disease, prostate cancer and diabetes in the department or in South Africa, Swaziland and Botswana.
