Department of Education
Welcome to the Department of Education at Elizabeth City State University and Home of the Mighty Vikings! Teacher Education has always been a priority at Elizabeth City State University. The Department of Education's priority is to prepare perspective teachers to understand concepts needed today to be successful in the classroom with diverse populations.
Today's teachers (Pre-K thru 12) must be extremely knowledgeable of the curriculum, understand the many roles of assessment and able to create new and better ways of assessing standards. Additionally, teachers must be able to think critically and objectively when presented with novice situations. Today's teachers must be prepared to meet challenges to ensure that all students are college and/or career ready. The Department of Education offers the following undergraduate programs which prepare our students for licensure and a Bachelor of Science in Education Degree: Birth thru Kindergarten, Elementary Education, Special Education: General Curriculum, and Middle Grades Education: Math and Science or Language Arts and Social Studies. In addition, we collaborate closely with faculty in History, Math, Biology, English, Music, Art, and Physical Education to prepare teachers to teach in those areas. We have Graduate Programs in Elementary Education and School Administration which prepare teachers to become leaders.
We have recently revised all teacher education preparation programs to better meet the challenges that confront education today. If you have questions, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We look forward to you joining our team and making a difference in the lives of our students.
