Department of Mathematics & Computer Science
Welcome to the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Elizabeth City State University. The Department offers undergraduate programs leading to Bachelor of Science degrees in both Mathematics and Computer Science. The Department also offers a M.S. in Mathematics with concentrations in Mathematics Education, Applied Mathematics, Community College Teaching, and Remote Sensing.
Students majoring in other disciplines can minor in either mathematics or computer science. Our strong curriculum, which emphasizes both theory and applications, and the personal relationships with faculty give our students a high level of preparation for research, graduate study, as well as for professional employment. The Departmental faculty members are well-qualified, have diverse research interests, and are dedicated to the success of students. It is recommended that prospective students contact the department as early as possible to discuss an appropriate program of study and to plan the sequencing of course requirements.

Additionally, the department is focused on developing the analytical and critical thinking skills of students in a caring and collaborative environment.
B.S. Computer Science
The mission of our undergraduate program in computer science is to prepare students who are able to apply both analytical and practical computer science skills across diverse environments within a global society. Our goal is to produce marketable students in an ever-changing and increasingly competitive technological world.
The mission of the undergraduate program in mathematics is to equip our students with analytical, logical, and problem solving skills necessary to effectively solve and communicate mathematics. We prepare our majors to apply their knowledge in advance degree programs and careers requiring expertise in mathematics.
The mission of the graduate program in mathematics is to provide our students with advanced mathematical skills which enable them to reason quantitatively and analytically. We prepare our students with the underlying principles necessary to perform research to apply in a real world environment.
