The Health Professions Scholars Program (HPSP)


The Health Professions Scholars Program (HPSP) is focused on nurturing ECSU undergraduate students intent on pursuing careers in the health care fields ( ex. dentistry, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, physical therapy).

Interested students apply for acceptance into the program and must maintain high academic standards and satisfy program requirements for participation. In return, HPSP provides the following support to participants:

  • Faculty mentoring by a health care professional for successful pursuit of advanced training in a health care field
  • 10 Professional Development Modules
  • Guest speakers from health care field
  • Internship exploration
  • Opportunities for community outreach
  • Admissions exam preparation (ex. DAT, GRE, MCAT, PCAT ) and assistance with exam registration fees
  • Application review to develop competitive applicant
  • Simulated interviews for admission to professional programs
  • Peer mentoring
  • Peer and/or faculty tutoring in math/science
  • Dedicated computer lab

While student recruitment is ongoing, new participants are accepted into the program each September and continue in the program until they graduate from ECSU or gain acceptance into a professional program (as long as participants continue to meet participation expectations).
