Criminal Justice at Elizabeth City State University

ECSU criminal justice majors are expected to adhere to the Code of Ethics.

As a CRIMINAL JUSTICE MAJOR at Elizabeth City State University, I am dedicated to learning the theoretical aspects of the criminal justice system and to further learn what is necessary for my future services as a criminal justice practitioner in the criminal justice system and the community.

I WILL conduct my personal life with decorum, will not cheat or condone cheating in the learning process and will put loyalty to moral principles above personal considerations.

I WILL uphold with dignity the precepts of Elizabeth City State University, of which I am a part, in order to develop an awareness of my responsibility to uphold the laws, statutes, and dignity of the criminal justice system of which I will become a part.

I WILL cooperate with my instructors, my follow students, and related persons assisting me in the development of my career and will attempt to continually improve my performance in my studies and my personal life through seeking knowledge and understanding.

I RECOGNIZE the importance of respecting the confidentiality of the material to which I am given access during my Internship.

I WILL not knowingly violate any laws of the United States, any state, or any subdivision thereof and will not knowingly commit or participate in the commission of a felony, misdemeanor, or crime involving moral turpitude.

I AM AWARE of the fact that I cannot be convicted of, or have a record of, a conviction of a felony, misdemeanor or crime involving moral turpitude, and further that I must respect persons invested with authority on the local, state, and federal level, and authority from any legitimate source.

I REALIZE that I must constantly strive to achieve these objectives and ideals, dedicating myself to my chosen field of study.
