Q: Am I required to be admitted to the Social Work Program before I can apply for
a Field Education Placement?
A: Yes, All students are required to be admitted to the Social Work Program before they can enter a field education placement.
Q: When should I submit my application for Field Education Placement?
A: Application for Field Education should be submitted to the Director of Field Education during the second semester of your junior year.
Q: Do I find my own placement?
A: No, the Director of Field Education selects an agency for you. The selection is based on information that you provide for an agency preference, your learning needs and agency availability.
Q: Is Field Education and Seminar a graded course?
A: Yes, you must pass Field Education and Seminar I and Field Education and Seminar II with a minimum grade of C. You will not be able to continue to Field Education and Seminar II if you do not pass Field Education and Seminar I with a grade of C or above.
Q: Can I complete my Field Education Placement where I work?
A: Students are not allowed to complete a Field Education Placement in their place of employment.
Q: Do I need a criminal background check?
A: This requirement may be requested by the agency where you are placed. Many agencies require students to complete criminal background checks before entering the field education placement.
Q: How many placement hours are needed for graduation from the BSW program?
A: Students are required to complete 220 hours per semester for a total of 440 hours during the year. Students enter their field education placement during their senior year.
Q: Will I have a different placement each semester?
A: No. Students are placed in the fall semester of their senior year and remain in the same placements during the second semester of their senior year.
