The Department of General Studies is the lower division of the University and the entering academic unit for all students. Its purpose is to provide a core curriculum which is designed to give students fundamental knowledge and skills and a broad liberal and cultural education. Faculty within the department advise students during their first two years and prepare them for admission to a degree-granting program. The department also coordinates various support services which help students to enhance their skills, become academically successful and clarify their personal and career goals.
