Learning Outcomes and Assessment

The BA in Art at ECSU provides a stimulating and supportive environment with solid instruction in both traditional and contemporary studio arts. The program offers a wide range of arts and design studios, matching academic courses of outstanding quality and a minor in Art Education. The BA provides a solid education preparing students for opportunities in professional careers, graduate school, and research.

Outcome 1
Majors upon completion of the program will be able to recognize works and intentions of major artist/designers and movements of the past and the present, both in the Western and non- Western worlds.

Outcome 2
Majors upon completion of the program will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the nature of contemporary thinking on art and design, and have gained at least a rudimentary discernment of quality in design projects and works of art.

Outcome 3
Majors upon completion of the program will be able to develop an art exhibition to showcase at a public venue.

Outcome 4
Majors upon completion of the program will be able to use technical skills, perceptual awareness and understand principles of visual organization sufficient to achieve basic visual communication and expression in one or more media.

Outcome 5
Majors upon completion of the program will be able to identify visual elements such as lines, shapes, values, textures in their work and in other artist's work.

Outcome 6
Majors upon completion of the program will be able to prepare a portfolio that exhibits their studio art and design work.
