BA in Communication Studies

Learning Outcomes and Assessment

The mission of the Communication Studies program is to prepare students to pursue graduate studies in the field of Communication and related areas; to prepare students for careers in mass communications, public relations, government services, and other areas that require advanced communication skills and the use of specialized communication technology.

Outcome 1
Students will be able to analyze the history of the professions and roles of institutions in shaping written, oral and visual communication.

Outcome 2
Students will be able to write correctly and clearly in forms and styles appropriate for the communications professions, audiences and purposes they serve.

Outcome 3
Students will be able to use a variety of techniques to analyze and identify the diversity of people and cultures.

Outcome 4
Students will be able to discuss the significance and impact of mass communications in a global society.

Outcome 5
Students will be able to apply tools and technologies appropriate for the communications professions in which they work.

Outcome 6
Students will be able to critically evaluate their own work and that of others for accuracy and fairness, clarity, appropriate style and grammatical correctness.
