Learning Outcomes and Assessment

The Elementary Education Program at Elizabeth City State University is committed to high quality education of teachers. We strive to prepare out teacher candidates as leaders in a 21st century global society. Our goal is to have all elementary teacher candidates become exceptional teachers and strong articulate advocates for public education.

Outcome 1
After completing the program, candidates will be able to design and implement effective lesson plans based on state and national standards.

Outcome 2
After completing the program, elementary teacher candidates will be able to demonstrate understanding and skill in the teaching and integration of reading and language arts.

Outcome 3
After completing the program, elementary teacher candidates will be able to understand and teach conceptual and procedural skills related to Mathematics.

Outcome 4
After completing the program, elementary candidates will demonstrate knowledge and skills of essential science content, the scientific method, and science inquiry skills.

Outcome 5
After completing the program, elementary candidates will be able to demonstrate understanding of essential knowledge of social studies and global citizenship for a democratic society

Outcome 6
After completion of the program, elementary teacher candidates will demonstrate the ability to effectively assess, plan, teach, organize, and manage in the elementary classroom.

Outcome 7
After completing the program, elementary candidates will demonstrate mastery of the knowledge, skills, and dispositions of the conceptual framework, and those specific skills specific to the INTASC standards.
