Learning Outcomes and Assessment

The Art Department at ECSU provides a rigorous program of study in the technical, conceptual and theoretical aspects of graphic design. The BS in Graphic Design requires our students to fulfill an internship, and prepare their portfolio for professional careers or graduate school. 

Outcome 1
Majors upon completion of the program will be able to demonstrate an understanding of common elements and vocabulary in art/design such as lines, shapes, textures and colors.

Outcome 2
Majors upon completion of the program will be able to organize design projects and to work productively as a member of teams.

Outcome 3
Majors upon completion of the program will be able to explain design history, theory, and criticism from a variety of perspectives.

Outcome 4
Majors upon completion of the program will be able to use technology to create, reproduce, and distribute visual messages.

Outcome 5
Majors upon completion of the program will be able to solve communication problems, including the skills of problem identification, research and information gathering, and analysis.

Outcome 6
Majors upon completion of the program will be able to create and develop visual form in response to communication problems, including a basic understanding of principles of visual organization/composition, information hierarchy, symbolic representation, typography, aesthetics, and the construction of meaningful images.
