Science Students

Welcome to the Dr. Hermon Glenn Cooke Department of Biology and Marine Environmental Science! We prepare our students for entry into an array of scientific careers through either a B.S. Degree in Biology or a B.S. Degree in Marine Environmental Sciences. Students who matriculate through our programs will have the appropriate knowledge and skills in the biological sciences that will allow them to pursue careers in research, teaching, industry, or graduate and professional school opportunities.

The Department offers the B.S. Degree in Biology with the following concentrations: (a) General Biology, (b) Molecular Biology/Biotechnology, and (c) Pre-Medicine/Pre-Dentistry. Those Biology majors wishing to pursue a secondary teaching degree program must complete a major in Biology and a minor in Secondary Education. Majors in Marine Environmental Science will receive the B.S. Degree in Marine Environmental Science. Both of our degrees are designed to prepare students for professional employment in related fields, graduate school, and professional schools in medicine and public health.

We strive to provide a great education for our students by having dedicated faculty and staff and by creating opportunities for our students through internships and other research opportunities.
