Department of Mathematics & Computer Science
Welcome to the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Elizabeth City State University!
As a '73 alumnus and chairperson, I am more than honored to serve in this position and address all current and prospective math & computer science majors regarding both our undergraduate and graduate programs. The Department offers undergraduate programs leading to Bachelor of Science degrees in both Mathematics and Computer Science. The Department also offers minors in scientific areas as well as Liberal Arts. The Department recently received approval for a Masters in Mathematics Program with concentrations in Mathematics Teaching, Applied Mathematics, and Remote Sensing. Its strong curriculum provides students with a high level of preparation for research, graduate study, as well as for professional employment with an emphasis on integrating theory and applications.
Students majoring in the Mathematical Sciences have numerous career opportunities open to them. An undergraduate degree in Mathematics or Computer Science establishes an excellent background for graduate studies in many areas such as Actuarial Science, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Operations Research, and Statistics. Those who are planning to receive a license to teach high school and/or middle school Mathematics must have a minor in Secondary and/or Middle Grades Education.
The Departmental faculty members are well-qualified and have diverse research interests. It is recommended that prospective students contact the department as early as possible to discuss an appropriate program of study and to plan the sequencing of course requirements.
