Welcome to the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science homepage. The mission of this department is:

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science has a multifaceted mission: To offer undergraduate degree programs and minors in Mathematics and Computer Science; to teach General Education courses as well as math and computer science courses required by other academic departments; to offer graduate degree program in Mathematics with Applied Mathematics, Mathematics Teaching, and Remote Sensing concentrations; to foster scholarly activities among both faculty and students; and to seek external funding.

We complete one facet of our mission by being actively engaged in the planning and execution of the mathematical requirements in the Department of General Education and other departments. Senior members of the faculty serve as the course coordinators for College Algebra and Precalculus while most of the department's professors teach sections of the courses to ensure that all ECSU students receive high quality instruction in these fundamental courses.

As students majoring in Mathematics or Computer Science progress into the core courses of our academic programs, they greatly benefit from the advantages offered by a smaller school. Small class sizes allow our majors to develop personal relationships with the faculty. Because of these relationships, our majors can easily get any additional help that they require to understand the advanced mathematical concepts. Many of our graduates still communicate with the faculty as colleagues and friends.
Our strong curriculum, and the personal relationships of the faculty, give our students a high level of preparation for research, graduate study, as well as for professional employment.
The small class size and personal relationships extend into our graduate programs also.
