Mack Sumler

Department of Military Science

Mr. Mack Sumler military career spans over 27 years. He is originally from Detroit, Michigan and entered the Army immediately after graduating high school. He completed Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Dix New, Jersey. Afterwards, he attended Airborne School at Fort Benning, Georgia and was later assigned to his first duty assignment with the 1-505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, and Fort Bragg.

His stateside assignments include various units of the 82d Airborne Division Fort Bragg, North Carolina and Fort Bliss, Texas. His overseas assignments include two tours; 1-508th Parachute Infantry Regiment in Fort Kobbe Panama and 2-9 Mechanized Infantry, Camp Casey, Korea. He has three combat tours which include both IRAQ and Afghanistan.

He has served in various leadership positions from squad, team, platoon, company, battalion, brigade, division and corps levels.

Mr. Sumler is a graduate of all the Non-Commissioned Officer Educational Schools (including the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy). He has an Associate of Science Degree in General Education-Psychology from Troy State University and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Resource Development from Southwestern College and is currently working on his Master’s Degree in Strategic Leadership.

His awards and decorations include: The Bronze Star Medal, Legion of Merit Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal with five Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal with five Oak Leaf Clusters, Good Conduct medals, NATO Forces Medal, Combat Actions Badge, Parachutist Badge, Chilean Parachutist Badge, numerous other awards and is a recipient of the distinguished U.S. Army Quartermaster “Order of Saint Martin.”
