Office of Sponsored Programs
A Message from the Director
Greetings! from the Office of Sponsored Programs, Contracts and Grants (SPCG). Our primary goal is to support Elizabeth City State University's (ECSU) research mission by assisting faculty, staff and students in the procurement of grants, contracts and cooperative agreements from external sponsors; promoting faculty involvement in domestic and international collaborations and research partnerships; administering the university's Title III/SAFRA Programs to strengthen its infrastructure; and ensuring that its privilege of receiving external support is protected. SPCG comprises the offices of pre-awards, post-award non-financial, Title III/SAFRA, and research compliance.
Since its inception in 1993, SPCG has continued to build upon the university's solid foundation of teaching, research, and community outreach. Although, historically a teaching institution, ECSU is proud of the fact that more than 300 junior and senior faculty and staff have received assistance with their grant writing efforts. Despite their busy schedules and many responsibilities, faculty and staff have submitted over 1225 proposals totaling in excess of $400 million and secured over 800 awards for more than $150 million in extramural funding from federal, state, local, and private sponsors. These funds have been used to support research, student scholarships, faculty development, curriculum enhancement, instrumentation, community service, faculty and student travel, collaborative partnerships, and other sponsored programs. Through their persistence, the faculty have also generated over $6 million dollars in facilities and administrative (F&A) funds to support the university's overhead costs, the Office of Sponsored Programs, contracts and grants personnel, the Schools and Departments, scholarships, Academic Affairs, the Chancellor's discretionary fund, and other areas of need.
Although we have made significant strides in our pursuit and acquisition of grant and contract awards, much needs to be done. To that end, the Office of Sponsored Programs pledges to continue a comprehensive and aggressive approach to helping administrators, faculty, staff, and students achieve their research and sponsored program goals. As always, we will provide assistance through workshops and one-on-one guidance as well as cradle to grave support in proposal development and submission, grants management, etc.
On behalf of the Office of Sponsored Programs, we appreciate the opportunity to have served you in the past. We look forward to serving you, both now, and in the future. Together, we are one team with one goal: supporting the mission of ECSU!
