Greetings Vikings! Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) is preparing to take part in the Commission on Colleges - Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) reaffirmation process. Accordingly, we are once again challenged to re-examine the educational opportunities afforded our students. Assessing student learning outcomes is an iterative process for all of our campus constituents; therefore, the SACS review process affords us the opportunity to take a step back and measure the impact of the mission of the university as it relates to student learning.
The SACS review process has changed significantly since 2001 when ECSU was reaffirmed. The process is more modernized and much of it is done via the Internet. Whereas, the old method of "self-study," which required compliance with a series of "must statements," the new reaffirmation process is based on integrity, compliance certification, Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), a demonstration of an ongoing process of assessment and evaluation, and use of the results to continuously improve the educational delivery system at the University. Within this new model, quantitative documentation is required in order to provide the degree to which compliance is actually achieved. Ultimately, the SACS reaffirmation process requires that ECSU examine every aspect of its operation.
Our approach to the SACS reaffirmation process will be a collaborative, campus-wide effort which will concentrate on student learning outcomes and emphasize our commitment to academic excellence. Consequently, your input and support will be critical as the university moves toward its 2011 reaffirmation. The SACS experience is an opportunity to revitalize our efforts and methodologies in terms of mission, goals and objectives, instruction, research, scholarship, and service.
Let me thank you in advance for your participation, professionalism, and steadfast support for Elizabeth City State University.
