Quality Enhancement Plan
Feedback from campus constituents is a necessary component for the proper functioning of the university. Likewise, as the Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) community prepares for its reaccreditation, your opinion is needed as we begin to examine potential topics for the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP). To make it easier for university constituents to provide suggestions regarding a QEP topic an electronic suggestion box has been developed.
WHAT IS THE QEP?
The Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) is the component of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) reaccreditation process that reflects and affirms the commitment of the Commission on Colleges to the enhancement of the quality of higher education and to the proposition that student learning is at the heart of the mission of all institutions of higher learning. By definition, the QEP describes a carefully designed course of action that addresses a well-defined and focused topic or issue related to enhancing student learning (Handbook for Reaffirmation of Accreditation, SACS). Developing a QEP as a part of the reaffirmation process is an opportunity for ECSU to enhance overall institutional quality and effectiveness by focusing on an issue or issues that the university considers important to improving student learning.
The selection of the QEP topic is one of the most important decisions that we will make as a university this year. Your participation is critical to the success of the QEP since it must involve the entire university community, from selection of a topic to implementation of the final plan. In order to develop a plan that is right for Elizabeth City State University's future and the future of our students, we need contributions/ideas to improve student learning from faculty, staff, students, alumni and members of our service area communities.
WHAT INFORMATION IS APPROPRIATE FOR THE QEP?
Any ideas that may impact student learning at ECSU are appropriate. Preliminary submissions can be as brief as a sentence or two. As we narrow down suggestions into common themes, we will provide opportunities for individuals and/or groups to submit more detailed proposals. Whatever we choose to focus on must be something that the university community believes is relevant to our existing mission, priorities, and strategic plan. Since the topic will ultimately involve teaching and learning, it must be an issue of interest and concern to our faculty. The topic must eventually be developed into a feasible plan - one which we can practically implement in terms of human and financial resources. And, finally, the plan must be built upon a topic for which we can develop appropriate ways of evaluating genuine improvement in student learning.
