Instructors/Tutors

Essential Job Functions

Under the supervision of the Coordinator of Upward Bound and the Director of Special Programs, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Collaborate and follow instructions as delegated by the Coordinator or the Director
  • Enforce program policies and procedures, carry out disciplinary procedures, and report situations to the Coordinator as necessary
  • Maintain proper documentation
  • Administer pre-assessments and post-assessments to the participants to determine areas for improvement and to track growth (or mastery)
  • Record and track the progress of each participant using an online grading system
    Plan lessons that encourage students to think critically and connect the content to their lives and experiences
  • Use research-proven strategies to deliver instruction (differentiated instruction, student-centered strategies, etc.)
  • Conduct self in a professional manner and be positive for students
  • Create a positive learning environment for students
  • Attend staff meetings
  • Complete other assigned tasks or duties
Qualifications & Experience
  • A Bachelor’s degree with the appropriate teaching license and at least two years of successful                        teaching experience.
  • Have excellent leadership, supervisory and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, specifically low-income and first-             generation
  • Be flexible, enthusiastic and friendly
  • Be familiar with laws relating to minors
  • You must pass a criminal background check
  • Mathematics Instructor/Tutor must be familiar with mathematical concepts/content for Math                I, II,  III, Pre-Calculus, Statistics, and Advanced Functions and Modeling
Salary Salary will be based on experience and level of education

Residential Counselor/Tutor Counselor

Essential Job Functions  

Under the supervision of the Coordinator of Upward Bound and the Director of Special Programs, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Supervise high school students in an academic and residential environment
  • Be responsible for a group of students
  • Be able to conduct workshops and tutorial sessions, as needed
  • Collaborate and follow instructions as delegated by the Coordinator or the Director
    Enforce program policies and procedures, carry out disciplinary procedures, and report situations to the Coordinator in a timely manner
  • Develop or assist in the development of engaging and purposeful evening activities for students in a residential setting
  • Supervise students during meal times
  • Maintain proper documentation
  • Conduct self in a professional manner and be positive for students in a residential setting
  • Create a positive learning environment for students
  • Attend staff meetings
  • Complete other assigned tasks or duties
  • Must have earned a Bachelor’s degree or currently enrolled at a college/university as a junior or senior with a 3.0 grade point average
  • Have excellent leadership, supervisory and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, specifically low-income and first-generation
