Math,
Science, & Technology Grants
Dr. Johnny Houston, Mathematics and Computer Science
has been awarded $750,000 for The Computational Science-Scientific
Visualization. The funds will be used for curricula
revisions of gateway courses in Mathematics, Science
and Technology (MST); enhancement of a Scientific
Resource and Learning Center in the School of MST,
implementation of a MST Career Seminar Series, increased
technology exposure in all MST courses, enhanced research
experiences for MST faculty/students during the academic
year and increased internship experiences for MST
students and faculty during the summers. The primary
goal of this project is to create an opportunity for
minority students and faculty to contribute to research
with applications of computational science-scientific
visualization tools and techniques in areas of interest
to DoE and the nation. Academic year activities include
conducting research in areas of long-term interest
to DoE, developing and presenting tutorials (research
training) in workshops in computational science-scientific
visualization, and sharing advanced software/computational
science-scientific visualization tools and techniques
via internet and teleconferencing. Summer activities
include ECSU-NAM Summer Research Institute in Computational
Science-Scientific Visualization and research activities/dialogues
with DoE Laboratories. For more information, see http://cssvc.ecsu.edu/.
The
Department of Biology has been awarded $170,000 through
the North Carolina Biotechnology Center. This award
entitled "Elizabeth City State University Biotechnology-Program
Initiative-Phase VIII" will be used to support
