Information Technology and KACE
Currently, Elizabeth City State University uses Dell's KACE Management Appliances to manage 1200 of the University's personal computers. These computers include both faculty and staff computers as well as personal computers located in student labs across campus. The University uses both the Dell KACE 1100 Management Appliance and the Dell KACE 2100 Deployment Appliance.
KACE's remote management technology is helping to both lower university costs and provide environmentally efficient management of the university's technological needs. Technical staff can respond faster to the needs of the campus computer users; for example, the technical staff can update computers, apply patches and install software remotely with little or no impact on the users. Use of this appliance enables the University to save on electrical costs through practices such as remotely disabling computers after lab closing time. Estimated annual savings during the first year of KACE implementation totaled nearly $46,000.
