Four at ECSU commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant

Four cadets at Elizabeth City State University were commissioned as 2nd lieutenants in the U.S. Army on May 4. They are Anthony Hester, a sociology major from Morehead City, N.C.; Jonathan Carnegie, a sociology major from Ahoskie, N.C.; Ashley Smith, a business administration major from Newport, News, Va.; and Paul Stevens, an engineering technology major from Elizabeth City, N.C.
Maj. Michael Peeler recited the oath of office for the newly commissioned officers. Smith had served as the unit’s first female Battalion Commander in nearly a decade. The four officers were among 245 undergraduate students who earned degrees during ECSU’s 154th Commencement Ceremony on May 5.
