Virtual Server Hosting

The DIT Data Center offers virtual servers that provide enterprise-grade high availability. ECSU`s hyper-converged environment driven by next generation technologies powered by Nutanix ® and VMWare®.

Critical File Backup

Powered by Microsoft Azure Backup server integrated with Microsoft STORSIMPLE ® hybrid storage solution  ECSU takes full backups every week, and incremental backups, (which contain only the data changed since the previous incremental or full backup) every night. In general, the full backups are stored on Microsoft`s Locally Redundant Storage. Locally redundant storage (LRS) maintains three copies of ECSU`s data. LRS is replicated three times within a single Microsoft Datacenter which is off premises. LRS protects ECSU`s data from normal hardware failures, and the data is encrypted.

Email

The ECSU Email system is powered by Microsoft Outlook (office 365) . All faculty, staff an individual ECSU email account (jdoe@ecsu.edu). The student email also hosted on Microsoft Office 365 cloud follows the following format: jdoe###@students.ecsu.edu, where ### represents the last three digits from the student ID .

Virtual Private Network

A virtual private network (VPN) is a network that is built upon the public network such as internet — to connect to a private network, such as the campus internal network.

Wi-Fi

VENDOR/VISITOR GUEST ACCESS

If a department requires access to WiFi for on-campus vendors or visitors, they must submit a Helpdesk ticket for this request at least 7 days prior to the date.  The request should include the start and stop date and time for the access that there vendor/visitors require.  The person submitting the requests must assume full responsibility for vetting their users for security purposes.  Up to 20 individual accounts may have access to the Viking (Guest) Wi-Fi.  These accounts will be on a ”secure” network and will be visible to IT Services staff.

Major Events/Engagements

We are able to provide “unsecured” access to a group of users when a department or building requires Wi-Fi access for guests.  For major events and engagements on campus, a Helpdesk ticket must be submitted at least 2 weeks prior for preparations and testing.  The request should include the start and stop date and time of the event, or duration that guest wireless access is needed.  DIT will provide the access for up to 1 hour prior and 1 hour after the scheduled event.

Phone Services

DIT provides telephone services to the ECSU faculty, staff and students. Services are provided to ECSU locations that are on campus and soft phone for mobile devices. Analog phones lines are offered where applicable for example, Fire Alarm, Emergency Telephone Booth, Elevators etc.

Enabling emergency notifications for parents and the community.

Office 365

ECSU offers its students and employees access to the Microsoft Office suite in the cloud.  Access MS Office applications like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook (Mail)*, Skype and OneNote or download the latest versions from the ECSU / MS Office portal.  Share your files with fellow students, professors and colleagues to collaborate in real time or at your convenience.  ECSU employees, login to your ECSU-provided Lynda.com account to learn more about the many features of Office 365.

Azure (IaaS)

Available to Faculty, Staff, Researchers, and other ECSU divisions, Infrastructure as a service (IaaS) is an instant computing infrastructure, provisioned and managed over the Internet. It can scale up and down with demand, and be billed based upon usage.

IaaS helps you avoid the expense and complexity of buying and managing your own physical servers and other datacenter infrastructure. Each resource is offered as a separate service component, and you only need to rent a particular one for as long as you need it.

Departmental Shares            

Upon request, DIT provides departmental shares to each respective organizational unit on campus. These departmental shares are comprised of limited storage space that is maintained and backed up by the IT Infrastructure team. If additional space is required, it can be accommodated.

Single Sign-On (SSO)

SSO allows you to log into many of the campus applications and services using the same VikingOne ID and password. Shibboleth Identity Provider is centrally maintained to provide both SAML and CAS compliant authentication services that limit reuse and exposure to user credentials by multiple services.

Cable TV

Students in residence halls can watch digital cable TV powered by Time Warner. Time Warner Cable is the sole provider of cable service to the campus. All residence halls have cable service. The students need only to have a TV that can view digital channels as no set-top box is needed.
