E-Mail Log-In Student Email Faculty/Staff Email

All employees and students at Elizabeth City State University have access to a free email account. For more information, click one of the links to the right.

Faculty & Staff Email/Domain Account

For ECSU employees, an email/domain account will be used to log into a campus computer and their email via the Internet. The creation of the account, for employees (permanent or temporary), is initiated in Human Resources and processed in IT Network Services. After the account has been created, employees have two options for checking email: Microsoft Outlook on the Desktop and/or Microsoft Outlook Web Access.

Email/Domain User Account Information (Faculty/Staff)

The email/domain account uses the same username and password information for both accounts.

  • Username: First initial, middle initial, last name (Example: jtsmith)
  • Email Address: <<username>>@ecsu.edu (Example: jtsmith@ecsu.edu)
  • Password: Viking$#### (The #### represents last 4-digits of your SSN.)
Passwords are required to be changed every 45 days to keep the account secure. Requirements: at least 8 characters, contain letters, numbers, and symbols from at least 3 of the 4 categories (uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and special character...i.e. ! @ # * ?).

Student Email/Domain Account

For ECSU students, email/domain accounts are initiated and created for incoming students by IT Network Services, either for new student orientation or within the first week of school (there are a few exceptions). The student email accounts use Google Apps (i.e. <<username>>@students.ecsu.edu).

The campus domain account gives students access to local resources such as logging into a computer in the computer lab, accessing the campus network from their dorm room, and/or accessing remotely to the library electronic databases. The two accounts have the same username; however, they are unrelated. The passwords have to be synced manually by the student (changing one password does not automatically change the other).

Verify a Student's Email Address

  1. Go to the following URL: http://www.ecsu.edu/contact.cfm.
  2. In the Student Email Directory section, type the last name in the Last Name field.
  3. Click the Search button.

Email/Domain User Account Information (Student)

The email and domain accounts have the same username with different passwords.

Email Account:

  • User Name: <<username###>> First initial, middle initial, last name, ### - 3-digit number (Example: jtsmith123)

  • Password:
    • Current Students: current password
    • New Freshman & New Transfer Students: Viking$#### (The #### represents the last 4 of your SSN or Banner ID #.) You may be prompted to change your email password upon first login.

  • User Name: <<username>> (same as email username)
  • Password: password assigned
Passwords are recommended to be changed at regular intervals to keep the account secure. Requirements: at least 8 characters, contain letters, numbers, and symbols from at least 3 of the 4 categories (uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and special character...i.e. ! @ # * ?).
