Mr. Rasheed is the CEO of N.C. Community Development Initiative located in Raleigh, N.C. He is a graduate of Elizabeth City State University. Mr. Rasheed earned a MS degree from the University of Southern New Hampshire and a MEd from Trenton State College. His civic activities include Chair, Advisory Committee for the Richmond Federal Reserve; Chair, Advisory Committee, Atlanta Federal Home Loan Bank; Member, NCSU-Institute of Emerging Issues; Vice Chair, Center for Leadership Innovation; Member, Kerr-Tar Regional Economic Development Corporation. Mr. Rasheed will complete his first four-year term in 2011.
Dr. Paul Norman, a 1981 graduate of ECSU, is currently the Dean of Students in the Student Development Services Division at Wake Technical Community College. He also served as a former president of the National Alumni Association (ECSU). He was appointed by the UNC Board of Governors and his term expires in 2013.
Ms. James is a 1988 graduate of ECSU with a degree in Basic Business Education. She is currently the Broker in Charge at Taylor Mueller Realty and serves on several boards. She is currently the President of the Elizabeth City Habitat for Humanity. In 2007, she was named REALTOR of the Year by the Albemarle Area Association of REALTORS. Mrs. James will complete her first four-year term in 2011.
Andy Hartsfield is a retired Vice President of Public Policy and Advocacy for GlaxoSmithKline. Hartsfield earned a bachelor of arts degree in chemistry in 1977 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a law degree in 1980 from Wake Forest University School of Law in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Mrs. Rodgers is a 1980 graduate of Elizabeth City State University with a B. S. degree in Education. She is Vice President of Solid Foundation Facilities Inc. in Bertie County, a behavioral healthcare organization working with children and adults. She will serve on the board until 2013.
A retired administrator of the N.C. Department of Correction and a 1977 graduate of ECSU. He was appointed by the Governor. His term will expire in 2013. Sutton's past experience includes 36 years with N. C. Department of Corrections-- 29 years as an administrator; includes four years with the U. S. Air Force. He currently serves with the leadership and team building consultant group, "The Sutton Group."
Dr. Jimmy Tate serves as the Executive Director, Strategic Initiatives & Organizational Effectiveness to the President, James Sprunt Community College, Kenansville, N.C. He also serves as a Commissioner for Pender County. He received a B.A. degree and M.A. degree from UNC Wilmington and a Doctor of Humanities from Apex School of Theology. He has also studied at North Carolina State University (certificate), Fayetteville State University and Shaw University Divinity School (graduate studies).
Ms. Virginia Tillett, a retired educator and a 1989 graduate of ECSU, was appointed by the UNC Board of Governors. Her term will expire in 2013. She serves on the Dare County Commission and is an advisory member of the Dare County Credit Union.
Vonner G. Horton is the Senior Pastor of Oxley Hill Baptist Church, Merry Hill, N.C. She has served on the Elizabeth City State University's Foundation Board in the office of Secretary; Faith Partnerships, Inc. Board of Directors and a governor's appointee to the North Carolina Commission of Volunteerism and Community Support.
Mr. Walker is a 1967 graduate of Elizabeth City State University with a Batchelor of Science Degree in Intermediate Education. Mr. Walker's career included serving as an Elementary School Principal, High School Principal, Assistant Superintendent of Operations and he retired as the Superintendent of Schools (Washington County), Plymouth, N.C. Mr. Walker is a Board of Governors appointee to the Board of Trustees.
Mr. DeVon McNair, a senior, is the President of the Student Government Association who serves as the ex-officio member of the ECSU Board of Trustees. Mr. McNair is from Kinston, NC.and is majoring Business Administration, concentrating in Marketing and Management Information Systems.
Mayor Fred Yates is a former member of the ECSU Foundation Board, Board of Trustees and a Trustee Emeritus.

Dr. Joseph T. Jenkins is surgeon in Elizabeth City, N.C., Carolina Surgical Care. He completed his residency in 2003 at UNC Chapel Hill. He serves on the Elizabeth City Boys Club Board, the Pals Board and serves on the Vision 2020 task force out of the Mayor’s office. He attended UNC Chapel Hill where he received his B.A. and M.D. degrees.
