A Dream Made a Reality

During the fall of 1979, Dr. Claudie J. Mackey and Mr. Alvin T. Kelley shared thoughts almost daily over breakfast on what action could be taken to generate renewed interest in athletics at Elizabeth City State University. After numerous sessions, they agreed that a Sports Hall of Fame would be an excellent way to recognize former athletes, coaches and contributors to athletics at the University, while at the same time provide the impetus to bring back a "hard core" group of supporters who had somehow drifted away from "Little Liz."

Coach Robert L. "Bobby" Vaughan, Athletic Director at the time, gave the two alums and former Elizabeth City State coaches' enthusiastic encouragement and insured them that something could and should be done. That was all they needed to get started. As a result, they decided to develop their own model and allow it to become a benchmark for others to follow. READ MORE.
