Generally, incoming students must have a 2.5 high school GPA,1200 SAT1 score or 17 on the ACT unless the scholarship criteria lists higher qualifications. If that is the case, you must meet the specific GPA/SAT/ACT criteria of the particular scholarship. You also MUST apply for financial aid by March 1st in order to be eligible for a Foundation Scholarship. Continuing Students generally must have a 2.5 GPA in order to be considered, unless the criteria demands a higher GPA. Students are ranked based on their SAT / ACT scores and GPA and are awarded until funds are no longer available. Some Foundation Scholarships will be awarded annually, others carry a four year commitment as long as the student maintains a 2.5 GPA and reapplies by March 1st of each year. The ECSU Scholarship Fund Students eligible for this scholarship award must be a legal resident of North Carolina. The student must possess a minimum SAT score of 850 or ACT equivalent and have 3.00 high school GPA. The student must also complete at least 30 credits with at least a 3.0 GPA each year.  Apply
Mary Douglas Endowed Scholarship This scholarship will be presented to a top student coming out of high school and entering ECSU each year. Apply
East Carolina Bank Opportunity Fund Students eligible for this scholarship award must be residents of Washington, Hyde or Tyrrell Counties.

Bernice S. Ashe Scholarship Students eligible for this scholarship award must be residents of Northampton or Hertford counties.  This award is based on the financial need of the student.  The student must possess a minimum GPA of 2.5 and major in Education, Computer Science or Biology (pre-medicine). AW Thweatt Scholarship Students eligible for this scholarship award must be a legal resident of North Carolina. This award is based on the financial need of the student.  Eligible students must possess a high school GPA of 2.5 or higher with a minimum SAT score of 850. The student chosen for this scholarship award must remain a full time student and major in Biology, Health Science or Business Management.   The student must maintain an overall average of 2.5 to continue eligibility.

Belk Scholarship Students eligible for this scholarship award must be a legal resident of North Carolina.  Eligible students must possess a minimum SAT score of 900 with a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher. Students chosen for this scholarship award must maintain enrollment as a full time student with at least 15 semester hours each semester and maintain an overall GPA of 3.00 to continue eligibility. BBT Scholarship Students eligible for this scholarship award must possess a minimum SAT score of 800 and a 3.0 GPA or better. The student chosen for this scholarship award shall be known as BB&T scholars. Apply
Charles Jenkins and Dorothea Poole Jenkins Scholarship Students eligible for this scholarship award must be a junior or senior student in good standing with the University with an overall GPA of 3.0.  Eligible students must be a legal resident of North Carolina with a minor in English.  Preference (not required) will be given to a student working on the yearbook or other school publication.  Apply
Claude Lois Green Scholarship Students eligible for this scholarship award must be a legal resident of North Carolina. This award is based on the financial need of the student.  Eligible students must have a high school GPA of 2.0 or higher with a minimum SAT score of 800. Students chosen for this award must maintain enrollment as a full-time student and maintain a 2.5 GPA.  Apply
Charles Williams Scholarship Students eligible for this scholarship award must have a high-school cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above and a SAT score of 800 or above. Eligible students must have a class ranking within the top 20% of students graduating.  Students must receive a recommendation from his/her high school principal or guidance counselor, community leader and enrolled in ECSU. University Choir Scholarship This scholarship may be awarded to incoming freshmen and current students. Eligible students must be enrolled in the University Choir with a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester and maintain an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher. Students must display a work ethic conducive for leadership and excellence.  Students chosen for this scholarship award must maintain the highest moral and ethical standards and be free of criminal charges and convictions and free of infractions against school policies and procedures. This scholarship award is renewable annually for a maximum of 3 years for full time students who meet the aforementioned criteria. Apply
Class of 63 Scholarship This scholarship can be awarded to more than one student for the academic year. Eligible students must be incoming freshmen and must have a minimum SAT score of 800 and a high school GPA of 2.5 or better.  Students awarded this scholarship must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours and maintain a GPA of 2.5 or better to continue eligibility for four years.  Apply
Class of 67 Scholarship Students eligible for this scholarship award must be incoming freshmen that reside in Richmond, Virginia or the surrounding area. The student must have a GPA of 3.0 or above, previously volunteered in the community and must have exhibited outstanding moral and ethical standards in personal and scholastic behavior.  Awards for this scholarship will be presented at the Honor's Convocation. Marion D. Thorpe Scholarship Students eligible for this scholarship award must have a minimum SAT score of 900 or above and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better and be in the upper fourth of his/her class.  Eligible students must be a citizen of the United States. The student selected for this scholarship award must maintain a 3.0 GPA in order to continue eligibility.  This scholarship award will be awarded during Honors Convocation. Apply
Essie C. Payton Mills Scholarship This scholarship award is to be given to an entering freshman student with a 3.0 GPA from a Pitt County High School. The scholarship will continue for the elected student for four years if he/she maintains a 3.0 GPA and demonstrates a financial need.  If no graduate from a Pitt County High School can be recruited, then any minority student from any NC High School with a 3.0 GPA and a demonstrated financial need will be selected. Evelyn Johnson Scholarship Students must pursue studies in Education or the Performing Arts. One scholarship will be awarded to a student attending Elizabeth City State University for the Evelyn A. Johnson Scholarship and also a student from Gillfield Baptist Church and Corner Stone Missionary Baptist Church for the Otelia Johnson Byrd Memorial Scholarship. Apply
General Scholarship Students eligible for this scholarship must be a legal resident of North Carolina.  Eligible students must have a high school GPA of 2.5 or higher with an SAT score of 850 or higher for entering freshmen. This award is based on the financial need of the student.   Students awarded this scholarship must maintain enrollment as a full-time student and maintain an overall GPA of 2.5 to continue eligibility. Glaxo Foundation Scholarship This scholarship serves as an incentive for full time women science students to enter the science profession. The scholarship is awarded to female students each fall with a GPA of 3.0 or better.  Female students that are chosen to receive this award must maintain a 3.0 or better to continue eligibility. JE Cofield Scholarship This scholarship award may be awarded to two or more persons. Eligible students must be full time students majoring in Education.  Students chosen for this award must be a junior or senior with a GPA of 2.5 or higher.  He or she must also be an active participant in university life with demonstrated leadership and good character.  Apply
J. S. Carrie Roebuck This scholarship award will be used for football scholarships to athletes residing in Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Pasquotank and Perquimans Counties. Apply
Jacob and George Felton Scholarship This scholarship will be awarded to the top football player with academic excellence, potential for success and university involvement each year. Eligible students must carry a minimum course load of 12 credit hours.  The scholarship award is not renewable. Apply
Maurice Powers Scholarship Students eligible for this scholarship award must be a legal resident of North Carolina.  Students chosen for this award must maintain enrollment as a full-time student with at least 15 semester hours each semester.  This scholarship will be awarded to one male and one female per year. The personal experiences and other factors of eligible students may be considered. Apply
Omega Psi Phi Scholarship Students eligible for this scholarship must be a member or a relative of a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.  Eligible students must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours. Apply
Pitt Scholarship Fund Students eligible for this scholarship award must pursue a four-year degree and the scholarship is renewable for up to three years provided the recipients earn 30 credit hours per year and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5.  Students that reside in Edgecombe County, North Carolina will be given first preference. Ridley Scholarship Students eligible for this scholarship award must have a GPA of 2.0 and demonstrate quality leadership representing 65% given for University Center and 35% for other campus activity. Apply
Samuel and Nora Thompson This scholarship award will be given to a graduating senior who has persevered in spite of difficulties and accomplishes graduating with his/her class. Apply
Robert E. Harvey Scholarship Students eligible for this scholarship award must be a legal resident of the Tri-States (Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware) and have a 2.5 GPA. Apply
Vivian Burke Scholarship Students eligible for this scholarship must be a legal resident of North Carolina from the Northeast Ward of Winston-Salem.  Eligible students must be incoming freshmen with the minimum SAT score and high school GPA acceptable for university admission.  He or she must maintain enrollment as a full-time student with at least 15 hours each semester.   Apply
William and Alice Culpepper Scholarship This scholarship will be awarded to a deserving student.  Apply
Willie Mae Jones Johnson Scholarship Student must have a high school GPA of 2.5 or higher with a minimum SAT score of 850 and 750 for entering freshmen.  To continue eligibility, recipient must maintain an overall GPA of 2.5. This is a need-based scholarship. Apply
Mary Tillery Scholarship Student must be a rising sophomore, junior or senior who has expressed a sincere desire to complete a four year degree and in need of financial assistance. Apply
Joe White Scholarship Recipient must be a sophomore who after the second semester of their freshman year has need for financial assistance. Student must major in Industrial Arts or Technology and display the most progress within the freshman class and participates in an extra-curricular activity. Apply
Margaret and Lorimer Midgett Scholarship Students must be enrolled at ECSU and reside in Elizabeth City, Pasquotank, Camden, Currituck or Dare County. Apply
Sheryl Denise Ganus Endowed Scholarship Student must be a Computer Science major enrolled at ECSU. Recipient must maintain a 2.8 GPA with a minimum course load of 12 credit hours.  Apply
Charlie H. & Louise Hughes Endowed Scholarship The recipient must be a NC native studying Elementary Education with a high school GPA of 3.0. Once admitted to the university, the student must maintain a 3.0 GPA with a 12 or more credit hour course load.  Apply
Johnson and Barnes  Scholarship Fund Recipient must be an incoming freshmen enrolled at ECSU from the 21-county service area of North East North Carolina. Student must maintain a semester course load of 15 credit hours and a minimum GPA of 2.5. Only those majoring in Social Work or Business Administration are eligible to receive this scholarship. Student must be actively involved in the community, and become a member of the ECSU Pre-Alumni club. Apply
Phillip Smith, III Scholarship Students must reside in Hampton or Newport News, VA and maintain a minimum of 12 credit hours. Apply
Johnson & Johnson Scholarship Student must be a graduating high school senior studying mathematics education or elementary education. Student must maintain a GPA 3.0 or above and attend ECSU for four consecutive years.  Apply
Bennie L. Williams, Sr. Education Scholarship Recipient must reside in Johnson County, NC and be enrolled in the Teacher Education program. Student must maintain a 3.0 or better GPA and required to have a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester. Apply
The Winifred J. Wood Scholarship Fund for Northern Albemarle This scholarship will be utilized to attract and retain top students coming out of high school and entering ECSU each year who come from one of the four counties served by the Northern Albemarle Community Foundation (Camden, Gates, Pasquotank, or Perquimans).  Students qualifying for this scholarship must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average coming out of high school. The scholarship award will be part of the students' financial aid package that is presented to them in August of their freshman year and, if they stay at the University for four consecutive years, they will be eligible to retain this scholarship throughout their time as a student (not to exceed four years). Dr. Brian R. Copeland Scholarship Any costs associated with their educational program at ECSU.  Apply
Class of 1979 Scholarship Student must have a high school GPA of 2.5 or higher and once admitted into the university he/she is required to maintain an overall GPA of 2.5 and a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester to continue eligibility. Apply
Class of 1969 Scholarship Student must be enrolled at ECSU and carry a semester course load of a minimum of 12 credit hours. Apply
Sharonda C. Walton Scholarship Must be a resident of North Carolina preferably Northampton County majoring in Computer Science. Student must have a high school GPA of 2.5 and SAT score of 800 or no less than the minimum set by the UNC System. Apply
Linda Davenport-Sanders Scholarship Students must be enrolled in the band. Apply
Desiree Kirby Talent Grant ECSU student must exhibit academic excellence or talent in but not limited to student leadership, music, music appreciation, intercollegiate athletics, dance, drama, sculpture, painting, writing and other fine arts. Apply
State Employees Combined Campaign Scholarship Recipient must be a resident of North Carolina, have a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Student must also have a SAT score of 750 or higher. Apply
Delta Chi  Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated Scholarship This scholarship fund shall provide scholarships in the amount of $500 a year to full time students of Elizabeth City State University that:
-Are female;
-Are current members of the Delta Chi Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
-Have at least a 3.0 GPA. Maintain enrollment as a full-time student with at least 15 semester hours each semester.     Apply
North Carolina Legislative Black Caucus  North Carolina resident students must have a 3.0gpa or above. This scholarship is for freshman, sophomores, juniors and non-traditional students. Each student must submit a professional photograph along with a typed essay. Fall submission deadline date is October 1st and Spring submission deadline date is March 1st. Apply
TH Wamack Award Student must be a Junior or senior majoring in one of the social sciences.  The award will recognize academic progress, potential for success, the overall involvement of the student in the social sciences at the university and in the community. Apply
Math and Computer Science Scholarship This scholarship may be awarded to a full-time student with a major in Math and Computer Science, and have an overall GPA of at least 3.00 and a 3.50 GPA in Math and Computer Science major courses.  Student must display a work ethic conducive for academic excellence and leadership.    Student must be in good academic standing and must maintain the highest moral and ethical standards. Student must also be free of criminal charges and convictions and free of infractions against school policies and procedures.  If a full-time student is not eligible, a part-time student that meets the preceding criteria may receive the scholarship. School of Education and Psychology Merit Scholarship Fund Entering freshman with a 3.75 GPA with an ACT score of at least 28 and a SAT score of 1,240 or an entering freshman with a 3.50 GPA with an ACT score of at least 30 and a SAT score of 1,320 and an expressed interest in a major in the School of Education and Psychology.  This award is renewable annually for full-time students for a maximum of 3 years, provided the recipient maintains a 3.5 or higher grade point average and continues to pursue a degree within the School of Education and Psychology.  Recipients must maintain the highest moral and ethical standards and be free of criminal charges and convictions and free of infractions against school policies and procedures. Mickey Burnim Scholarship Initial recipient must be a first-time freshman.  The student must be a business, economics, teacher education or science-discipline major with a cumulative high school GPA of at least 3.0.  SAT (verbal + math) must be at least 1,000.  If there is no eligible student in the aforementioned majors, this scholarship may be awarded to a student majoring in another field of study. Applicant must be committed to earning a baccalaureate degree from ECSU.  Scholarship is renewable for up to four years. The student's cumulative GPA must be 3.0. Apply
Mary Hyatt Scholarship Student must reside within the New York/New Jersey geographical area and major in an accredited field of study. Recipient must have a minimum of 12 credit hours and a minimum SAT score of 800. Apply
E. Kirk Rivers Endowed Scholarship Student must be a graduating senior from Northeastern High School and reside in the 4th Ward of the city of Elizabeth City. Apply
Rev. Foster Scholarship The scholarship recipient must possess a C grade point average; all ECSU students, regardless of residency are eligible to receive this scholarship on an annual basis. Apply
Class of 1975 Scholarship Students must have a high school GPA of 2.5 or higher. Only students enrolled at ECSU and carrying a semester course load of a minimum of 12 credit hours are eligible for this scholarship. The student must maintain enrollment as a full-time student at ECSU with an overall average of 2.5. Apply
Peterson Scholarship The scholarship will be awarded Annually to a full-time ECSU student majoring in English, Literature or Communications and a regular participant with the University Players.  The student must maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA in all theatre major classes and remain in good standing with ECSU. Apply
1891 Scholarship Enrolled students at ECSU carrying a semester course load of a minimum of 12 credit hours are eligible for this scholarship.  Students must maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher and a SAT score of 850 to be eligible for this scholarship. Apply
Richard Reid Scholarship Student must be a sophomore, junior or senior with a GPA of 2.5, majoring in the area of Business.  Apply
Matthew and Christine Lewis Scholarship This scholarship is available to full-time ECSU students.  Eligible enrolled students may be incoming freshmen or upperclassmen.  The student must be a resident of one of the following counties in North Carolina:  Martin, Pitt or Hertford.  The student must be registered with the School of Education and Psychology as at least one of their major courses of study and maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.5 in high school or college. Trustee Emeriti Scholarship This scholarship is available to full-time students enrolled at ECSU. Apply
Greg Russell and Mail Boxes, Etc. Scholarship This scholarship is awarded to students in the ECSU Aviation Sciences Program.  Student must be an incoming freshman with a grade point average of 3.0 or more.  Student must be a North Carolina resident who lives east of Interstate 95. Apply
Franklin and Hannah Scholarship This scholarship may be awarded to students in the School of Education and Psychology or students in the University Choir. Apply
Myrtle G. Boone Endowed Scholarship The purpose of this fund is to support the costs of textbooks at ECSU. Apply
Eason Athletic Scholarship This scholarship is available to members of the ECSU Football team who maintain a 2.7 grade point average.  Student will be eligible to retain this scholarship up to four years. Apply
Hawkins and Heyward Scholarship Recipients of this scholarship must be a resident of Northampton County (NC) and maintain full-time enrollment at ECSU.  The student must maintain a grade point average of 2.5 to retain this scholarship award. Apply
Donna Congleton Watts Scholarship This scholarship will be awarded to students from Craven County with a minimum GPA of 2.5.  The recipient must major in one of the following areas:  Education, Aviation Sciences and Music Industry Studies.  Recipients will be encouraged to keep the donor informed of their academic progress. Only full-time students enrolled at ECSU are eligible for this scholarship. Apply
Bettye D. Alexander Scholarship Recipients of this scholarship must carry a semester course load of a minimum of 12 credit hours at Elizabeth City State University. Apply
Robert and Valerie Vaughan Scholarship Recipients of this scholarship must carry a semester course load of a minimum of 12 credit hours at Elizabeth City State University. Apply
First Floor Scholarship Recipients of this scholarship must be a full-time student at ECSU, major in Business Administration and maintain a grade point average of at least 3.0. Apply
 
Carolyn MC Ellis Scholarship Recipients of this scholarship must possess a minimum grade point average of 2.0.  There is no academic major restriction or residency requirement for awarding this scholarship fund.  This is not a recurring scholarship award. Apply
Howell Family Scholarship Fund Potential recipients of the Howell Family Scholarship must be a rising sophomore or junior matriculating at ECSU; have a current and overall GPA of 3.0 or better; be a resident of one of the following counties: Bertie, Carteret, Durham, Edgecombe, Martin or Wake ; be a member of the Pre-Alumni Club; be an on-campus resident; be a full-time student and major in either Computer Science, Business Administration or Criminal Justice.  Applicants must submit a photo. Gilchrist Scholarship The recipient of this scholarship will have leadership potential and have the ability to give back to the University.  The student must be involved in extra-curricular activities but not limited to campus or civic organizations.  The applicant must be committed to earning a baccalaureate degree from ECSU.  The recipient must have a cumulative high school GPA of 2.5.  Continued funding is contingent upon full-time status. ECSU National Alumni Association Scholarship This scholarship is awarded to  students enrolled at ECSU and carrying a semester course load of a minimum of 12 credit hours with a 3.0 grade point average.  This scholarship will be utilized to attract and retain top students who rank within the top 10% of their high school graduating class and entering ECSU. Apply
LaTanya Afolayan Scholarship This scholarship is open to any undergraduate that demonstrates a commitment to his or her academic goals and community service.  This is a recurring scholarship for sophomores, juniors and seniors.  Each recipient must possess a 2.5 GPA.  This scholarship is open to full-time students with at least 12 credit hours each semester.  The preferred majors are Education, Music, Business, Visual Arts, Political Science, English and Communication Studies.  The recipient must complete a minimum of 10 hours of community service monthly at one of the following entities and/or non-profits: an elementary school, a hospital, food bank, nursing home, homeless shelter or animal shelter.  Verification of community service must be submitted to the ECSU Foundation on a quarterly basis in order for the recipient (s) to retain the scholarship in subsequent years. Willis, Sr. and Josephine McPherson Ferebee Scholarship This fund shall provide undergraduate scholarships.  Students must be a graduate of Camden, Currituck, Gates, Pasquotank or Perquimans Counties; demonstrate financial need; be committed to earning a baccalaureate degree from ECSU and have and maintain a GPA of at least 2.5. Selig Scholarship The recipient of this scholarship must have a 3.5 grade point average and a SAT score of 1000. Apply
