Biography:
Dr. Darnell Johnson graduated from Elizabeth City State University with a degree in mathematics after serving as both president and vice president of the student government association, captain of the football team, president and vice president of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and Who’s Who in Colleges and Universities for two consecutive years. He became the first student-athlete at ECSU and the CIAA to be awarded the NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship and attended the University of Kentucky in mathematics education. Later he earned an advanced certificate from Old Dominion University in Administration and the Doctor of Education in Leadership and Policy from The George Washington University. Dr. Johnson has served as a graduate assistant in mathematics, high school mathematics teacher, middle and secondary assistant principal and principal, central office administrator, adjunct faculty member, department chair in mathematics and computer science, assistant dean of education, and currently, The Distinguished Professor of Education with an emphasis in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). He has worked in the k-12 sector for 30 years and higher education for 14 years. He has coordinated STEM related research and activities for 11 years with The Center of Excellence in Remote Sensing Education and Research, The Center of Remote Sensing of Ice Sheets, NASA, ONR, and the k-12 community.
