Safe Zone

Multicultural Affairs Council

The Safe Zone Ally Program is a symbol of this University's efforts to increase awareness and acceptance of the diverse lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community. The purpose of the Safe Zone is to create a network of allies for LGBTQ students in order to make the university community a safer and more supportive place.

Goals and Objectives

To Develop:

  • A deeper awareness of personal ideas, stereotypes, and assumptions related to gay,
lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer students.
  • An increased comfort level in addressing LGBTQ issues such as "coming out,"
heterosexism/homophobia within the University community and with individual students.
  • An increased awareness of services on campus that support LGBTQ students.
  • A network of community and campus staff, faculty, students and alumni to support LGBTQ students on campus.
