EDUC 201: Foundations of Education (3) (F;S)
A survey of the historical, philosophical, sociological, psychological, and curricular aspects of American education. It is through a study of the foundations of American education that the school's role in society and its responsibility to help solve our nation's social problems are made clear to students. Thus, students develop an understanding of the structure and mission of present-day schools. They also learn to appreciate the historical significance of education and begin to formulate their own understanding of the professional aspects of teaching. This will enable them to make sound decisions relative to the delivery of instruction. Emphasis is upon teaching as a profession.
