Dr. Helen Marshall Caldwell School of Education and Psychology offers a program leading to the Bachelor of Science degree in Middle Grades Education and initial North Carolina licensure. Candidates majoring in Middle Grades Education are required to select an academic concentration and a specialization. The program is designed to prepare the competent practitioner who facilitates successful student performance to obtain teacher licensure in four academic areas within the middle grade structure of the public schools of North Carolina. Those areas are Language Arts, Social Science, Mathematics, and Science. Successful completion of these specialty areas fulfills the requirements for the North Carolina Standard Professional Teaching License. Courses and programs are also available for career teachers seeking teacher renewal and for students holding a baccalaureate degree who wish to obtain teacher licensure.
